Triathlon

The goal of the SCOA Triathlon Challenge Trophy Competition is to recognize and award the best, all-round performing Salukis competing in Conformation, Lure Coursing, and Companion Events at the National.

Participation & Disqualifications

Participants are required to compete in Lure Coursing (AKC and/or ASFA), Triathlon Conformation, and at least one of the following Companion Events (CE) – Agility, Rally, and Obedience. They will be scored or judged on their performance on the day of competition.

Past Triathlon winners must now compete at the next higher level of Companion Event unless the highest level has been attained in that event. For example, A) If a Triathlon winner used a Rally Intermediate score, future competitions would need to be in the Advanced Class or above or B) If a Triathlon winner used the Beginners Novice Class in Obedience, all future entries must be in Novice or above level.

  • Dogs with non-qualifying scores or incomplete scores in one of the two Lure Coursing competitions or one of three Companion Event competitions may still compete with a score from the alternate event.
  • In Lure Coursing a dog that has been Excused, Dismissed, or Disqualified in one of the two Lure Coursing competitions is immediately disqualified from the Triathlon.
  • A dog that is excused or disqualified from Conformation is not eligible for further Triathlon competition.
  • Any aggression towards people or other dogs will be grounds for immediate disqualification from the Triathlon.

Score Keeping

Prior to competition, all participants will note on the entry form which classes they will be participating in. All participants are welcome to enter as many Companion Event classes as they desire, and one or both Lure Coursing trials. Each entrant will be given a scorecard for their dog and, after each competition event, the entrants will report their score (initialed by the event official) to the Triathlon Score Keeper, who will tally the relevant scores from those entrant-specified classes on the entry form to use the highest event score for triathlon scoring.

Overall Placements

A dog must qualify in all three events (Lure Coursing, Conformation, and Companion) to compete for the Triathlon. Scores from the three events will be combined to get the final score to determine overall placements. Highest scoring teams with three qualifying scores will be considered first. If there are no teams with three qualifying scores, placements will be determined by the three combined scores (Lure Coursing, Conformation, and Companion Event). In the event of a tie overall score in placements, the award shall be shared with the next lower award not being designated, e.g. 1st, 2-way tie for 2nd, then 4th, and so forth.

Scoring

#1 Conformation:
All dogs will be judged on the day and awarded from 0 to 5 points based on how well they meet the AKC standard. The full 5 points would be given for an excellent specimen of the breed and no points would be given to a dog lacking one or both testicles, or who is excused or disqualified for lameness, aggressive behavior, or who is unable to be examined, or displays an altered appearance.

#2 Lure Coursing:
People may enter both AKC and ASFA events but only the highest point score for coursing will be used.

The Best of Breed winner will earn at least the highest number of points awarded to those stakes competing in the BOB run, for example, if the BOB winner is from the Open or Veteran Stake, they should earn the same points as the Field Champion/Special if they beat them.

#3 Companion Events:
People may enter as many Companion Events as they wish, but only the highest qualifying score in any CE will be counted.

a) Rally
b) Obedience
c) Agility
